Over the past week or so, Joseph Lim Guan Eng had boasted multiple times that one of his greatest achievement since DAP took over Penang is to attract IKEA to open an outlet in Penang. Joseph Lim Guan Eng seems to think this is the crowning achievement of his administration and is proof of his success. It happened multiple times over the past week.
In fact,yesterday Lim Guan Eng even called IKEA a 'economic game-changer'. He said in the following video post in his Facebook, here,
However, there would be exemption for economic game-changers, such as big companies on the level of Ikea, Alibaba, and Island Hospital, as they brought huge investments that could change and stimulate the industry and economy.

He boasted about the state’s ability to attract and clinch deals with companies such as popular international furniture giant IKEA, and outlet mall Design Village, both of whom have decided to establish branches in Batu Kawan.
In fact, he listed this as among the top of his list of "successes" in the Penang State Assembly sitting. It is worrying that asking a foreign company to set-up shop to sell so-called affordable furniture imported from overseas and meatballs to take money from Penang people is considered and frequently boasted as one of DAP's crowning achievement in Penang?
For Ikea to open a store in Penang is just like Kentucky Fried Chicken or McDonald's adding another restaurant there. What so great about that? There are already two IKEA mega-stores in the Klang Valley and no Barisan Nasional politician has ever trumpeted this as an achievement. much less a crowning achievement.
If your Chief Minister and ruling political party's idea of a crowning achievement and 'economic game-changer' is IKEA opening up a store, then Penang people have much to fear for their future.
